Where to go to nature

Nature is an incredible source of inspiration and a great option for a resident of a megalopolis, such as Moscow. It may seem that there are no untouched corners in its vicinity. However, even a couple of kilometers from the noisy trails in the Moscow region, you can find interesting places that amaze with the splendor of nature. And, although buses and trains run to many, a trip by car simplifies not only the road, but also expands the time and leisure opportunities. They go for a walk, swim, have a picnic, pick berries and mushrooms, and go fishing.

It is difficult to list all the suitable locations within this page, because some of the most famous natural attractions of the Moscow region.

Waterfalls of the Moscow region

Unfortunately, you will not be able to see the powerful and high waterfalls that occur in the mountains in the Moscow region. But the smaller streams created by springs and streams are all the more valuable. Several popular ones are located south and southwest of Moscow.

There is a 3 m high stream in Pushchino — Pushchinsky Waterfall. It is located on the high right bank of the Oka River and is part of the ecotropy of the city. In addition to him, the remains of ancient settlements and the estate of the XVIII century will be found on it.

The Kaluga Niagara Waterfall is located among the fields in the vicinity of Serpukhov, but already on the territory of the Kaluga region. The stream, several meters high, is formed by a stream that has washed away the semblance of a canyon. Yershovo village has a waterfall not so far from it: an elegant stream falls from the cliff past the grotto here.

The Kaluga Region has a couple of other waterfalls that are convenient for traveling from Moscow. At the village of Papino on Varshavskoye highway, on the border of the Moscow and Kaluga regions, it is worth looking for the Rainbow waterfall, running from a height of 2.5–5 m into the Nara River, and beyond the village of Gorodenka there is a small but sonorous waterfall Rattling Stream.

We will also include the Seven Keys near the village of Zolotkovo in the Naro-Fominsk district to the waterfalls. They carry their waters to the Protva. The picturesque, wooded bend of the river does not leave anyone indifferent. The same can be said about the Lama bend in Yaropolets, although people come to it for one of the first Soviet hydroelectric power plants. The Yaropoletskaya hydroelectric dam in the form of a semicircle is also a kind of waterfall. Connoisseurs of pre-revolutionary history should take a look at the Chernyshev Goncharov Estates nearby.

Lakes

There are many small and large rivers and lakes in the vicinity of Moscow. In summer, they become the main point of attraction for vacationers. Hot days are easier with them, fishing and water walks are impossible without them, a picnic and an overnight stay in a tent are more pleasant with a beautiful view. Many reservoirs can be reached by car, holidays can be organized independently and for free, and if desired, you can use the services of recreation centers, beach clubs and boat stations.

To the east of the capital are, for example, a fairly large reservoir — Lake Biserovo and a small perfectly round lake Baboshkino . The beautiful color of the water attracts sand pits: Shchelkovsky quarry, Blue Lakes in Lukhovitsy, Pavlenskoe Lake in Serpukhov, Blue Lake in New Sychiki beyond Mozhaisk. The Belopesotsky quarry in Kashira is also used for swimming.

Popular places for relaxing on the shore and swimming are to the west of Moscow — on Mozhaiskoe and Ozerninsky reservoirs. Many beaches are located on the Istra reservoir, which is closer to the capital. There are a lot of them on Pirogovskoye and Klyazminskoye to the north of the city. Even further away are the Ikshinskoye and Pestovskoye reservoirs, where there are also beaches, campsites, and fishing spots. However, visits to Uchinsky, located next door, are limited: the reservoir is a water protection zone. It should be noted that Senezh is a large artificial lake near Solnechnogorsk: the reservoir has pleasant shores for walking and relaxing.

The woods

Moscow is surrounded not only by a web of roads. There are forest parks, virgin forests and even wild protected areas in any direction from the capital. It's no secret that it's more convenient to get to such distances by car. The purpose of the trip may be different. For example, for a walk in the most unusual places.

One of the closest is the Losiny Ostrov National Park, which lies on the territory of Moscow and the Moscow Region. There are several sightseeing routes and an eco-trail in the park. The "Barefoot trail" of the arboretum of the park will be unusual, but useful for the feet. For 3.6 km, it is lined with more than 40 types of pavement, such as pebbles, cones, wood chips or crushed stone.

If it seems that you have not left Moscow, follow in the direction of Dubna. An equally original trail is located in Veretievo Park at the art estate of the same name. It was created by architect A. Brodsky. The landscapes of the forest in the swamp are decorated with huts, reading rooms and art objects.

If you want forests and meadows without frills, go to Lokhin Island. The natural monument near Krasnogorsk is a real island between the Moskva River and its staritsa, in the center of which is the Glukhaya Yama Lake. You can only travel around the island on foot or by bike, as well as get to it from the nearest village.

A trip to other places will be remembered by the inhabitants. Small but brave animals are likely to be found on the "White Weasel Trail" in Peresvet, and flocks of cranes — on the "Crane Homeland", which is also north of the capital. Throughout the summer, the reserve organizes crane and botanical excursions, many of which take place on guests' transport, in September it holds a Crane Festival, and in winter it tells about the life of the winter forest. At any time, you can visit two ecotropes of the reserve independently and freely.

When planning a visit to Serpukhov, include the Prioksko-Terrasny Nature Reserve in your itinerary. His kennel studies and breeds bison, which are large but vulnerable animals. It was the organization of such places that saved them from total extinction. Two or three dozen bison and several American bison live in the huge forest aviaries of the nursery, for comparison. The animals can be seen most closely in the autumn and winter period: bison approach the feeders located near the fences. For a walk along the "Bison Road", visitors are gathered in tour groups. In addition, two educational ecotropics have been created in the reserve, passing through the forest at an altitude.

Mountains

Mountains are another particularly attractive part of nature. On the territory of the Moscow region, lowlands and hills alternate, creating mountains, albeit not high. The steepest ones are a place for active winter recreation, allowing skiing, snowboarding or cheesecakes. The largest ski resorts are located north of Moscow.

For example, the Sorochany ski resort operates near Dmitrov, and several others are nearby: Leonid Tyagachev Ski Club, Volen, and Yakhroma. In Balashikha, this is the "Fox Mountain". The Loza is located in the vicinity of Sergiev Posad, Guy Severin Ski Club is located on Novoryazanskoe Highway near the Moskva River, and Elagino tubing Park is located on Kievsky near Naro-Fominsk, where skiing and snowboarding are also popular.

However, even in summer, resorts are waiting for those who want to relax, providing cabins and gazebos. In Sorochany, for example, the beach opens, horseback riding is offered, boats and bicycles are rented, and sports grounds are open. An outdoor heated swimming pool and a children's water park are being launched at Volen, although there is also an indoor Olympic, a sauna and a spa, and golf courses.

Peaks where ski resorts have not grown are more often small and popular only with locals. However, there are a couple of exceptions.

Myasina Gora in Zvenigorod will delight with a charming view of the Moskva River and the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, although the views from the monastery are also beautiful. Freeze-the mountain near Shapkino village on the Minsk highway will not impress with its height or views, nevertheless it will allow you to visit the highest point of the Moscow upland. A boulder with a plaque installed on it will report 310.1 m above sea level, and the more curious can find its legends. By the way, if you drive along the highway a little further, you can check in at the source of the Moskva River. Look for him at the chapel and the recreation area.

Where to stay in the Moscow region

A huge number of recreation centers, country and city hotels, hostels, sanatoriums, and apartments are offered on the territory of the Moscow region for residents and guests of the region. Using search filters, you can simplify the task of choosing and finding a suitable accommodation option, for example, with a swimming pool. In addition, the map helps you navigate the location and discover all the nearest options.

  • Hostels for budget travelers
  • Apartments and apartments

Excursions

Sergiev Posad, Zvenigorod, Serpukhov — there will definitely be excursions to these and other cities of the Moscow region, which is especially important for tourists without a car. Being accompanied by a guide will allow you to get to know the places in more detail and holistically. In addition, individual car tours are comfortable, with the ability to adjust the route and include only what you want.
